
About J.Timothy Ammons, M.D.
Dr. Ammons has been performing cataract refractive surgery since 1992 and laser refractive surgery since 1996, when the first FDA approved excimer laser arrived in Denver. He is dedicated to personally caring for patients throughout the preoperative, surgical and postoperative experience, believing that personalized care leads to optimal outcomes. Dr. Ammons also has an active cataract, glaucoma, and general ophthalmology practice.
Dr. Ammons grew up in Denver’s Park Hill neighborhood. He attended Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, graduating Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude in 1979. After college, he married and took his wife Mary, also from Denver, to England. As a Marshall scholar, he earned his Masters degree at Oxford University. He and Mary returned to Denver, where Dr. Ammons attended the University of Colorado School of Medicine and continued with his residency in Ophthalmology at University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Ammons joined Colorado Ophthalmology Associates in 1993. He is a board certified member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a past president of the Colorado Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. Appointed by the Governor, he served four years as a member of the Colorado Board of Medical Examiners, chairing panel A, before returning to dedicate full time to his ophthalmology practice.
The Ammons still enjoy spending time with their 5 children, ages 19-31. Dr. Ammons enjoys trying to keep up with them skiing, mountain bicycling, climbing and whitewater kayaking.
