At Colorado Ophthalmology Associates, we want to help change the way you see the world. Patients interested in LASIK surgery must come to our office for a detailed consultation, where one of our skilled surgeons will use advanced computer and camera technology to map the corneal surface of the eye. This is an important step in determining whether you are a good candidate for the LASIK procedure.
There are two purposes of this consultation:
- To answer all questions you may have
- To ensure your eyes are right for LASIK
We aren’t here to give you a standard sales pitch. You have unique concerns and specific questions. We will be sure to answer all of your questions and let you know exactly what you can expect from the procedure and from us.
A consultation is the ONLY way to determine if LASIK will work for you. Good candidates for LASIK are patients whose refractive error falls within specific parameters and who have enough healthy corneal tissue for laser treatment. Patients with prior trauma or disease to the cornea or defects that make the corneal membrane too thin are encouraged to pursue different avenues of treatment such as PRK.
Easing Your Mind
We expect that you will arrive with questions and concerns about the LASIK procedure. Our first step is to take time to explain the procedure to you, make sure you are familiar with everything during the process, and to make sure you have all of your questions answered accurately. We will take special care to ensure you fully understand what happens during the procedure and what LASIK can do for you.
Our skilled technicians will do a brief screening that includes the following: a review of your medical history, a complete corneal mapping, and a test of your corneal thickness. All of these tests will give us an accurate mapping of your eyes. Only when these tests are completed can we determine if you are suited for LASIK.
Reviewing the Results
This is when you’ll find out if you’re a good candidate for LASIK. We will explain the test results and let you know if you’re a good candidate or if another procedure is more suitable. The entire purpose of the consultation is to determine IF you’re a good candidate.
If you’d like to schedule your procedure right away, that’s fine with us, or you can go home and come to a decision later. We’ve done our job of verifying that you’re a candidate – now it’s up to you to decide if you will have the procedure.
