Dr. Ammons has been performing cataract refractive surgery since 1992 and laser refractive surgery since 1996, when the first FDA approved excimer laser arrived in Denver.
He is dedicated to personally caring for patients throughout the preoperative, surgical and postoperative experience, believing that personalized care leads to optimal outcomes. Dr. Ammons also has an active cataract, glaucoma, and general ophthalmology practice. Dr. Ammons grew up in Denver’s Park Hill neighborhood. He attended Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, graduating Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude in 1979. After college, he married and took his wife Mary, also from Denver, to England. Dr. Frank is a board-certified ophthalmologist with specialty training in cornea, cataract and refractive surgery. He treats Colorado Ophthalmology Associates patients at both our Denver and Lakewood Offices. Dr. Frank grew up in Kansas and received a BS in Biochemistry-Molecular Biology from Emporia State University graduating magna cum laude.
He received an MD from the University of Kansas Medical Center where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. Jason M. Jacobs, M.D. treats Colorado Ophthalmology Associates patients at our Denver offices. Dr. Jacobs is an accomplished cataract and refractive surgeon. He also provides excellent care in diabetic eye treatment, glaucoma, and all areas of general ophthalmology. He dedicates himself to providing compassionate, personalized care that integrates each patient’s eye care into his or her complete health care needs and overall life. Dr. Jacobs grew up in New York.
He attended Harvard University in Boston, MA, and graduated first in his class of 1993 Phi Beta Kappa with a degree Summa Cum Laude in Physics with a special interest in optics. Read more..
Amy Kelmenson, MD is a Corneal, Refractive and External Disease Specialist. Dr. Kelmenson joined Colorado Ophthalmology Associates in 2012 and performs surgeries such as cataract surgery, full thickness corneal transplant (penetrating keratoplasty), partial thickness corneal transplant (DSAEK), and refractive surgery such as LASIK.
She has received specialized training in corneal and ocular surface disease and surgeries, but also treats patients in all aspects of general ophthalmology including routine eye care, dry eye and allergic eye diseases, cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and uveitis. Kingsley C. Okafor, MD, is a board certified ophthalmologist and glaucoma specialist. Dr. Okafor is an active member of the American Glaucoma Society and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Okafor performs cataract surgery, glaucoma surgeries, including glaucoma drainage devices, trabeculectomies, Xen Gel Stent, and minimal invasive glaucoma surgeries such as iStent.
Dr. Okafor also performs refractive surgeries such as LASIK. Although Dr. Okafor is a sub-specialist, he also treats general ophthalmology conditions such as dry eyes, eye allergies, and diabetic eye disease. In 2021, Dr. Okafor was named as one of Denver’s Top Doctors by 5280 Magazine. Read more…
Dr. Patterson treats patients at both our Denver and Lakewood offices. He is a Denver native and lives in Genesee with his wife Ann and Yorkshire terrier “Eloise”.
He graduated from Cherry Creek High School and spent one year living in Norway as an American Field Service exchange student. His undergraduate degree was from Brown University in 1976 and he completed medical school at the University of Colorado in 1981. After serving his medical internship year in Christchurch, New Zealand, he returned to the University of Colorado for a residency in Ophthalmology. Read more…
Stephanie Melzer, O.D. treats Colorado Ophthalmology Associates patients at both the Denver and Lakewood offices. She provides excellent primary eye care, including contact lens fittings and the general management of ocular diseases like macular degeneration and glaucoma.
Dr. Melzer grew up in Littleton, CO. After graduating from Columbine High School she attended Colorado State University where she earned degrees in International Studies and Spanish. She then completed optometry school in Forest Grove, Oregon, graduating with honors from Pacific University in 2015. Read more…
